I’ve yet to meet a freelancer who isn’t also working on some dream project on the side. For me, that project is my novel, which isn’t to say I don’t love my day job. I’m happy as long as I’m writing in one form or another—magazines, website content, promotional writing and now blogging.

In keeping with the whole “write what you know” adage, I figured I know my own experience best. A writer’s life can be exciting and mundane, full of glamorous bylines and perfectly pitched stories, overdue invoices and hours of staring at a blank screen.

But the real thrill lies in what I don’t know. I don’t know what my next writing assignment will be. I don’t know when my novel will be ready to submit to agents. I don’t know of anything else I’d rather be doing than this.
