WOW! I am going to have to read this for sure. I love the title so much. I love titles even more than book covers.

Length of time from book’s start to pub date: 8 years
# of agents you queried before signing: around 10
# of books written before this one: 1
# of revisions you went through: 17
What eye-opening numbers, particularly the first and last one. It is both a source of motivation to keep at it, and an important recognition that writing really comes from revision. Thanks, Natalia, for introducing us to Ramona!

I'm SO excited you interviewed Ramona. I discovered this book from Goodreads a week or so ago and instantly put it on my TBR list. I cannot WAIT to read it. I love your comment, Ramona, that "The story was alive in the present, if only I allowed myself to tell it." Just think about what a DIFFERENT book you'd have produced if you hadn't allowed it to breathe on its own. Thanks, Natalia, for another great intro.

Very intriguing plot, Ramona. It reminds me a bit of The Village in that the people escape reality by creating one of their own. I loved that movie, and I believe I shall love this book, too!
Thanks for sharing, Natalia

This book sounds fascinating. I love historical stories, especially those with a grain of magical realism in them, as this one seems. Villagers reinventing the world? Husbands and jobs reassigned? My interest is piqued!!
"It’ll be really fun to be out there in the world with the book between covers, but the part I love the most is sitting there by myself making things up."
I like that.
Best of good fortunes with this novel, Ramona :-)
Another great interview, Natalia.

This sounds like an amazing novel! Absolutely fascinating, and I love the excerpt. It doesn't hurt that I too heard many stories from my grandparents who escaped from Russia by some ingenious lies and after much trial and tribulation. Congratulations, Romana! And thank you, Natalia, for an introduction to another wonderful book!

It got wet in the rain and my signature and the ink from the stamps have run slightly. I need to write my IELTS and apply for a student Visa. You can still make out that the photo is mine but I'm still worried. Please suggest what should be done as there's a problem here to get a passport and one has to wait for more than 3 months to acquire a renewal, or a fresh passport in lieu of a damaged or lost one. I'm desperate for advice. Please help!

I'm a fan of book scents, too. Especially with older, yellowed paperbacks. Sometimes the scent of a book becomes part of the reading experience for me, and I associate it with the plot or characters or setting.

Looove this post, Natalia! Have I told you before how nice it is to come to a place where I'm understood? My husband, (not a reader), just doesn't get it, and he thinks I'm so weird when I talk about how I love the scent of new books. Old books are trickier, though...I once bought a dictionary from a library book fair, and it wasn't until I got it home that I realized it smelled like baby powder (a scent I'm not too keen on). I have no idea who the previous owner was, but the instant I smelled it, I imagined some grandmotherly type. Then my son noticed if you slap it shut, a poof of powder rises up. Strange that someone would actually sprinkle powder into their dictionary, yes? We've also inherited my father-in-law's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, but I can't even crack them open b/c he was a lifelong smoker.
Sadly, you just don't get the adventures of booksniffing on an e-reader. However, my Kindle has a nice cover which totally smells like Office Max, so that's a slight compromise... Next to being wooed by the new book smell, office supplies are a close second. ;-)
Delightful post, as always. I love your attention to the tiniest details in life.

I know, it's so hard to resist! I find it especially hard not to skip to the back when it's an author I feel I know through online connections. Because at that point reading the acknowledgments feels even more personal.
